Contact Backup is designed to let you back up and export contacts stored on your iPhone. We take a privacy-first approach: your contact data and backup files are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
1. Contact Data
If you grant Contacts permission, Contact Backup may access information in your address book in order to create the backup or export you request. Depending on the contact, this information may include names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, organization details, birthdays, website addresses, and contact photos.
This contact information is processed on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or store your contact database on our servers.
2. Backup Files
Backup files created by Contact Backup are stored locally within the app's storage on your iPhone. You control whether a backup is shared, exported, saved to another location, or sent to another app using Apple's system sharing features.
Once you choose to share or save a file outside Contact Backup, the destination you select may process that file according to its own privacy practices.
3. Local Backup History and Change Detection
Contact Backup may store local backup metadata such as backup date, file format, contact count, file size, and file name so that backup history can be shown inside the app.
To identify changes since a previous full backup, the app may store locally generated one-way fingerprints of contact records on your device. These fingerprints are used only for local comparison and are not sent to our servers.
4. Advertising
Contact Backup uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as device and app information, advertising identifiers, ad interactions, IP address, and approximate location derived from network information, depending on your device settings, applicable law, and your consent choices.
If you allow tracking through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, the device's advertising identifier (IDFA) may be available to Google AdMob for advertising and advertising measurement. If you do not allow tracking, Contact Backup can still display ads, but the IDFA is not made available through ATT.
Contact Backup does not provide your contact names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, contact photos, backup contents, or contact record identifiers to AdMob.
5. Consent and Privacy Choices
Where required, Contact Backup uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to present consent or privacy choices for advertising. Available choices can vary by region and applicable privacy law.
Contact Backup may also request permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before allowing access to the device's advertising identifier for tracking. You can change tracking permission later in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security > Tracking.
Where the app provides a “Privacy Options” control, you can use it to review available Google advertising privacy choices.
6. Analytics
Contact Backup uses Firebase Analytics to understand general app usage, measure feature usage, and improve the product. Firebase Analytics collects usage and behavior information, including certain automatically collected events and device/app information, and it may use pseudonymous identifiers.
Our custom analytics events may include actions such as selecting an export format, starting or completing a backup, sharing a backup, or using another app feature. We do not intentionally send contact names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, contact photos, backup file contents, backup file names or paths, raw contact identifiers, contact fingerprints, or contact counts as custom analytics event data.
7. Permissions
Contacts permission is used only to provide contact backup, export, contact selection, and local change-comparison features. You can change the app's Contacts permission at any time through iOS Settings.
Tracking permission is optional and is used only for advertising-related purposes described above. Denying tracking permission does not prevent you from creating, viewing, exporting, or sharing contact backups.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Contact Backup does not retain your contact database on our servers because it is not uploaded to us. Local backup files, backup history, and locally generated change-detection data remain on your device until you delete the relevant data or remove the app, subject to iOS behavior and any copies you save or share elsewhere.
Contact Backup does not require a user account and we do not maintain a server-side contact database tied to you. Information processed independently by Google AdMob or Firebase is subject to Google's applicable retention, deletion, and privacy practices.
9. Third-Party Services
Contact Backup integrates Google AdMob, Google's User Messaging Platform, and Firebase Analytics. These services may process information independently under Google's terms and privacy practices. Contact Backup does not control Google's independent processing of that information.
You can learn more in Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase's Privacy and Security documentation.
10. Children's Privacy
Contact Backup is not designed to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect contact database contents through our servers from any user.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, legal requirements, or third-party services change. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
